IELTS 2017-18

Our IELTS courses are designed for people already in the UK, with a minimum of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.

The University Language Centre is offering both full-time and part-time IELTS preparation courses in 2017/18 to help you to prepare for the IELTS examination.

Our e IELTS preparation courses are ideal for students who want support and guidance in preparing for the IELTS exam (Standard and UKVI tests). The University Language Centre is an IELTS test centre (non-UKVI) with a UKVI IELTS test centre located nearby, making the Centre a perfect location for studying and taking an IELTS exam.

IELTS One Week Full-time Intensive Exam Preparation Course

Course Hours: 23 hours

Price: £300

Course Duration: This is a one week, full-time course

Timetable: Classes take place Monday to Friday 9:30am - 4.30pm

 

The course will provide opportunities for candidates to practise exam techniques and develop useful strategies to increase their confidence in taking the IELTS exam.  Students will be offered the opportunity to join a wikispace (an online learning area) which offers links for further IELTS practice.

Students will be provided with a book of practice tests (included in the course fee).

 

The course is ideal for people who:

-          want to know more about the test

-          want to practise with example papers

-          have taken IELTS before but not achieved the score they need

The course will cover the four skills tested in the IELTS exam:

-          Up to 38% of the course is devoted to the Writing test

-          Listening and Reading will comprise approximately 17% each, and Speaking approximately 21% of the course

The course will:

-          familiarise you with the format of each section of each paper

-          develop strategies for dealing with each paper

-          use sample exam questions

-          give you practice in taking the tests under exam conditions with useful feedback on your performance

-          include group discussion and exchange of ideas and tips

-          increase your confidence in using the language.

The course structure:

The course covers the four skills tested in the IELTS exam with up to 38% of the course devoted to the writing test. Listening and Reading will comprise approximately 17% each, and Speaking approximately 21% of the course. A general overview of the test and test day will also be covered.

 

Optional one-to-one Feedback add-ons

At the end of the course, you have the option to have additional one-to-one feedback sessions as follows:

Writing Practice and Feedback - £40 

You will have the opportunity to submit an IELTS writing task essay for review by one of our tutors. You will be provided with detailed written and verbal feedback on your essay, with tips on how you can improve.

Mock speaking test with feedback - £40 

You will have the opportunity to take another mock speaking test with one of our tutors. You will receive detailed verbal feedback on your speaking test and advice on areas to improve.

IELTS Part-time Exam Preparation Course

  • Course Hours: 32 hours

    Price: £400

    Course Duration: This is a 4 week, part-time course

    Timetable: Classes take place Monday - Thursday, 4pm - 6pm

Entry requirements

IELTS  preparation courses

You will need to have a current IELTS score of 5.5 overall. If you have not yet taken the IELTS test, you need to take an entry test at the University Language Centre in order for us to establish whether your English is at a suitable level for you to follow the course.

Class size

Maximum class size is 15 students. Please note a minimum number of bookings is required for the course/level to run. 

Minimum enrolment age

The minimum enrolment age is 18.
