The pre-sessional courses are designed to help you develop the academic skills you need to progress to a university foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate programme.
If you have applied for a course at The University of Manchester but have not yet fully met the English language requirement for your academic course you may be eligible to study a pre-sessional course in order to meet those requirements.
For further information please see our course description.
We offer courses for 20 weeks, 10 weeks, 5 weeks or 3 weeks. Your academic department will advise you on the length of course they would like you to take, and whether you need to take an IELTS/TOEFL exam at the end of your course.
Students requiring longer study will be advised to follow the English for University Study pathway.
You will study for 21 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 9:30am - 3:30pm, Friday 9:30am - 1pm. You will be expected to do some homework and self-study.
The minimum enrolment age is 18.
International students from outside the EU/EAA will require a Tier 4 General Student Visa.
More information can be found on the visa guidance page of the main University of Manchester website.
