Pre-sessional courses

Our pre-sessional courses are designed to help you develop the academic skills you need to progress to a university foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate programme.

If you have applied for a course at The University of Manchester but have not yet fully met the English language requirement for your academic course you may be eligible to study a pre-sessional course in order to meet those requirements.

Which course should I do?

We offer courses for 10 weeks, 6 weeks or 3 weeks. Your academic department will advise you on the length of course they would like you to take, and whether you need to take an IELTS/TOEFL exam at the end of your course.

Students requiring longer study will be advised to follow the English for Academic Purposes pathway. 

What is the class timetable?

The class timetable is being reviewed for summer 2020. Details will be published here when available. 

What is the maximum class size?

You will be taught in small group classes of around 20-22 students.

What is the minimum enrolment age?

The minimum enrolment age is 18.

Do I need a visa?

International students from outside the EU/EAA will require a Tier 4 General Student Visa.
