Travelling from Manchester Airport

Travelling to the University of Manchester

Travelling around a large city like Manchester is very easy and there are lots of options for travelling from the airport to the University:

The easiest way to travel from the airport to your accommodation is by taxi, especially if you have a large amount of luggage. There are taxi ranks outside all three terminals and the fare should be between £20 and £25 to University accommodation. Only black cabs, also known as hackney cabs, are licensed to take passengers without a booking in advance, so ensure you use one of these.

There is a train station at Manchester Airport. A shuttle bus service is available to take you from the airport terminals to the train station, or you can easily walk to through the airport and follow the signs for the train station.

There are direct rail links from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly railway station in the city centre and to Manchester Oxford Road railway station which is close to the main University campus. The cost of a single ticket is around £3 (off-peak) to £5 (peak).

There is a bus station at Manchester Airport. To get there from the terminals follow the signs for the bus station. The number 43 public bus departs from the airport bus station and stops close to many accommodation sites, including those in Fallowfield, on the main University campus and in the city centre.

Tell the driver your destination when you board the bus and ask the driver to let you know the best stop at which to get off the bus. The bus departs approximately every ten minutes during the day from Monday to Saturday, and approximately every 30 minutes throughout the night and on Sundays. The cost of a single journey should be around £3.50. You can dowload the Stagecoach bus app to your phone to check live departure times.

You can travel to Manchester from Manchester Airport by the Metrolink tram system. The Metrolink stop is inside the airport.

For the city centre and university you will need to alight at the St. Peter's Square Metrolink stop. If you are travelling on to our Fallowfield campus, you can get the 42, 43, 142, 143 Stagecoach bus services from Piccadilly Gardens. For more information on the network visit the Metrolink website:
